Drexel Barrell’s Expertise
SURVEYING
We started as surveyors in 1949 and land surveying, geomatics, and related services are still an integral part our business today. In fact, most of our projects start and end with surveying. We provide boundary and topographic design surveys at the beginning of a project. Our engineers design the infrastructure, and often contractors call upon our surveyors to provide accurate and precise construction staking so that the project is built in the right location and at the correct elevations. Finally, many agencies and clients contract with us to provide "as-builts" at completion to have a record set for future reference.
Drexel Barrell pioneered the use of GPS surveying in Colorado in the 1990's. Our "firsts" include establishing survey control in 1992 for reconstruction of the I-25 / 6th Avenue Interchange for CDOT; conducting the first GPS survey to the summit of Pike's Peak, including the Pikes Peak Highway from Manitou Springs; conducting an all GPS survey of the National Railway Test Center tracks in Pueblo in record time (1999), which allowed final evaluations of the 165-mph Acela passenger rail before deployment to the Washington DC-New York City-Boston Corridor; and the first LIDAR survey of the interior of the Colorado State Capitol Building as part of an historic preservation and restoration project.
